Berwin has the necessary technical excellence, ability and strength in depth to design the latest rubber based compounds to meet both the requirements of industry standards and customer specifications.
Extensive laboratory facilities are available to formulate a wide range of rubber compounds. Compounds can be designed to meet in-house standards, British Standards, ASTM specifications and the customers’ own specifications. The company will develop and improve current compound formulations to meet new demands and maintain a cost effective advantage in the market place.
The Development laboratory is a well equipped modern facility with an extensive range of test equipment which includes FT-IR, ozone, stress relaxation, low temperature and general rubber test equipment.

The Development function offers our customers a wide range of services including formulation design, customer support, process improvement and cost reduction programmes. Compounds are designed to meet the specific processing requirements of the customer e.g. injection moulding, extrusion, compression moulding, calendering and spreading.
EPDM based compounds, primarily for extrusion purposes are the single largest part of the business. These compounds are mixed on custom designed, dedicated mixing lines to ensure excellent dispersion, cleanliness and optimum quality at maximum output. The remaining mixers are used for a variety of polymers for a range of different applications.

Other polymer types processed include NR, SBR, BR, CR, NBR, HNBR, IIR, ACM, EAM, ECO, PNR, NBR/PVC, FKM, CSPE and CPE.
Compounds are supplied to the automotive, building, glazing, transport, defence, oil, medical, footwear and aerospace industries. Applications also include water drainage, food quality, sealing and fire protection.
Basic polymer characteristics are modified and improved to obtain a range of compounds designed to meet the requirements of ASTM, MOD, BS EN, automotive, UL and DIN specifications.
